Granola

I love granola for breakfast. But most of the commercially available ones contain way too much sugar and other strange ingredients - even the organic ones that are available in health food stores. The solution therefore is to make my own granola. And it's pretty easy. Cutting the nuts, adding some spices and there you go. I use apple sauce as the only sweetener. And did I already mention that I love Mason jars? In a country where almost everything tends to fall apart after a short time and lasting quality is not something you find easily, it is very satisfying to have sturdy glass containers made in the USA that do not break after the first use...

Ich mag Granola-Müesli zum Frühstück, aber sogar die Bio-Mischungen sind mir zu süss oder sie enthalten Zutaten, die ich nicht mag. Deshalb mache ich mein eigenes Granola. Es ist sehr einfach: Nüsse hacken (sehr meditativ), ein paar Gewürze zugeben und dann ab in den Ofen. Zum Süssen und Granulieren verwende ich einzig ungesüsstes Apfelmus. Speziell hervorheben möchte ich auch die Mason Jars, in denen ich das Müesli (und fast alles andere) aufbewahre. Mason Jars sind Einmachgläser, die - obwohl in den USA hergestellt - nicht beim ersten Gebrauch gleich auseinanderfallen. Das ist sehr wohltuend in einem Land, wo das Qualitätsbewusstsein sehr unterentwickelt und alles einfach auf Wegwerfen und Neukaufen ausgelegt ist...
